Exhibitions: An Introduction
After teaching in Taipei in 2002 and Hong Kong in 2003, I returned to both places in 2004 to exhibit the works inspired by the labyrinths of Chinese culture I explored from these two home bases. The two exhibitions, both titled “Plundering and Preserving China,” provided a variety of options for presenting, viewing, and reading my works. Placed on pedestals, my books may be opened and read page by page. Displayed as open accordions, either on platforms or on eye-level shelves, my largeformat books become sculpture-to-read. Opened, extended, and mounted flat on walls they become scrolls. When each of these options is exercised in a single installation, my artist-books and folios become an invitation to explore a library where all the pages show themselves.
